    What Sassalbo is

Sassalbo is a sandstone village at 860 metres above sea level, within the Appennino Tosco-Emiliano National Park. The name comes from the white colour of the local stone ("sasso albo" = white stone), used to build all the houses in the village.

It hosts the National Park headquarters and visitor centre. It's a starting point for hikes and an example of traditional Apennine architecture. It's not a tourist village: it's a real mountain village, quiet, authentic.
