The Castello Malaspina di Fosdinovo is one of the best-preserved castles in Lunigiana. Unlike many other castles in the area, this one is still inhabited and perfectly maintained. It was the residence of the Malaspina, the powerful family that controlled Lunigiana.
Today it is open to visitors: you can see frescoed rooms, towers, walkways, dungeons. The view from the terrace stretches from the Apuan Alps to the Ligurian Sea. There is also a B&B inside the castle, for those who want to sleep in a medieval fortress.
