What the Castello di Verrucola is
The Castello di Verrucola is located a few minutes from Fivizzano and is one of the best-preserved medieval castles in Lunigiana. Built around the 12th century, it belonged to the Malaspina and later to other noble families.
Today it is open to visitors and retains frescoes, historic rooms and an imposing structure. It's a "living" castle, not a ruin: you can enter, visit the rooms, see the frescoes.
