The Museum of Statue Stele is housed in the Castello del Piagnaro in Pontremoli and holds the most important collection of these mysterious prehistoric sculptures. The Statue Stele are stone figures carved between the 3rd and 1st millennium BC, found in Lunigiana. They represent warriors, men and women, with weapons, jewellery and symbols whose meaning is still partly unknown.
The museum is well organised, with explanatory panels and a route that takes you through the history of these enigmatic figures. If you're interested in archaeology or ancient history, it's a must-see.
